When Jezebel was only thirteen years old, she faced her fears by walking down Fairlane Road, the old abandoned forest road on the outskirts of town that no one ever talked about and no one ever ventured down. Nothing was ever the same after that. Now an adult, Jezebel walks down Fairlane Road every day, because beyond it–-beyond the forest–-is the Higher World, a fantastical and mysterious place where the Immortal Shadows walk and she can hear the songs of the fairies from the distant mountains. It is a refuge for her from the noise and banality of everyday life, and it is the only place she feels free.
But to her quiet hometown, a prophet has come in the form of a monster: a dark man from the Higher World with a message for humankind. The wisdom he brings has the power to change our world in radical ways. He comes to begin an awakening, to open the eyes of all. But he is also a murderer, and his arrival is a reckoning to those who will cross his path.
In their review for Fairlane Road, AUTHORS READING wrote:
“As the story unfolds, you’ll be transported to another realm; another world. With each new discovery, a new appreciation for the complexity of Lakin’s style of writing is revealed. Each layer that is peeled away brings a better understanding of the core of the story.”
